Scratching the surface with first review - Itchy Dry Skin

From cold weather, air conditioning, diet, the itchy dry skin and eczema caused can be an irritating and painful experience. Having tried several different products over the years and then being a parent of a child who also suffers, which is harder to deal with when you are not in control of the scratching! I was advised to try Unrefined Shea Butter by a dermatologist member of the family.

Previously we had tried Diprobase and Oilatum and in my experience these were great at reducing the irritation in the short term, but did not have the same longer term reduction and even removal of symptoms we found when using Shea Butter.

Small amounts of the Shea Butter should rubbed between hands to melt, then applied to the affected area. I would normally do this in the evening after their bath and before putting on their jammies and sending them to bed. This would increase the amount their skin absorbed by minimising the normal child hustle and bustle. On colder days I would heat the tub of Shea Butter in some warm water to reduce the effort of melting it in your hands first.

A 250g tub, applied most nights would still last me several months and currently at £4.99 it was not a huge cost to remove the misery of being constantly itchy and sore from the kids.

As I said we had previously used Diprobase and Oilatum, both good products and worth considering, although for me they are a close second and third. They do not deal with the symptoms as quickly and completely.
